How can we help you?
Rotary vane technology, such as our Hydrovane compressor solutions, can offer high reliability, efficiency and the quality your business needs - but only if they are serviced and maintained effectively.
While there’s no substitute for a professional service engineer and I’d always advise investing in a service and support contract, there are a few simple things you can do to keep your rotary vane compressor is running at peak performance.
Here’s my guide to some of the daily and weekly maintenance checks you should be carrying out:
If your compressor is lubricated with oil, you want to be sure that the oil level remains consistent to avoid any problems:
Always check the oil level when the machine is cold and before you switch it on
Remember, only use genuine oils, purposed-designed for your compressor. While a non-specified, off-the-shelf engine oil might be a bit cheaper, it’s not suitable for your compressor and can cause damage to the internal workings of the machine
Compressors often have to work in dusty environments, which means that the air that they take in needs to be filtered carefully to avoid any dirt entering the machine. So, it’s important to regularly check the pre-filter element on the air intake
If the filter is starting to deteriorate or is getting clogged up, give your service supplier a call to request a replacement
It’s worth knowing that on our Hydrovane HR models, the filter is always replaced whenever the machine is serviced – one less thing for you to worry about
When air is compressed, the moisture in the air needs to be removed in a controlled way. This condensate needs to be able to drain away properly to make sure that you are getting the right air quality for the job in hand.
Regularly check that the condensate drain is working properly and that the collection container is not overfilling
One of the biggest costs of owning a compressor is the energy used to power it. The good news is that there is lots that you can do to ensure your machine is running efficiently
A really simple tip is to switch your compressor off when you’re not using it. That way, it won’t consume energy unnecessarily.
Many machines, like models in our Hydrovane range, have an automatic stop/start function. If your compressor doesn’t, talk to your service provider
Your compressor is most likely using a fixed-speed motor which will run at a constant speed regardless of the load on the machine. Talk to your service supplier and ask them to set the parameters so that it is running as economically as possible - or request a system demand profile known as data logging.
Check your ventilation
Compressors work hard – and the area around can get quite hot as the hot exhaust air is vented in to the atmosphere.
Make sure your compressor is sited in a well-ventilated area at all times – avoiding extremes of temperature
If this isn’t possible, you can consider installing some additional ventilation – your service provider can advise you on some low-cost solutions
Our authorised distributors will be able to carry out routine maintenance and scheduled intervals - checking all compressor parameters and replacing any parts with genuine spares too.
